Fight to Restore Free STD Testing for LA's LGBT Community
On January 27th, we were 24 hours away from ending all free STD testing at the Los Angeles LGBT Center when we were able to come to a temporary agreement with the County’s Department of Public Health (DPH). The fight is not over. These funding cuts can happen again, as soon as March. We can’t let that happen.
We are calling on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to demand that the County’s Department of Public Health (DPH) PERMANENTLY RESTORE VITAL CARE for LGBT people and other communities most at-risk during the County’s current sexually transmitted disease (STD) epidemics.
We must act now and swiftly. There is no time to spare. Los Angeles is in the midst of raging STD epidemics, with infections continuing to rise. Access to testing and treatment is essential for combating the growing STD crisis. The ripple effect of the thousands of people who will now go untested and untreated will have dangerous repercussions for the LGBT community and all of Los Angeles.
Join us in taking action. Together, we CAN STOP the County from cutting funding for free STD testing for LA’s LGBT Community. This week, Los Angeles’ LGBT community saved the day. We have been reminded of the strength, tenacity, and resilience of our community.
