Goals:
1 Build networks and working relationships among interested clergy, spiritual directors and pastoral counselors
2 Connect clergy to the resources of Psychedelics Today
3 Strategize ways clergy and other religious leaders can be part of the work currently being led by the mental health community
Psychedelics Today is hosting a 4-session series of conversations with Christian clergy interested in learning more about the Psychedelic Renaissance and implications for the world’s great religious traditions. As part of the project, attendees will be able to meet and share knowledge among peers.
The format for this introductory group will be a web meeting where we will discuss the current psychedelic landscape as it relates to spirituality and religion as well as what’s on the near horizon.
Among possible topics:
Johns Hopkins/NYU Religious Leaders Study with psilocybin (results released mid-2021),
applications for end of life distress, late-stage trials with MDMA and psilocybin for depression, PTSD, and addiction, and Brian Muraresku’s book “The Immortality Key” which posits psychedelic use by early Christian communities.
We will discuss what is possible now and what may be possible in the near future with decriminalization efforts in the U.S.
After a few meetings to determine the group’s interests and learning goals, we may expand to bring in experts who can speak to specific topics identified by the group.
All applicants must sign a privacy agreement. Participants will be encouraged to share their own stories and experience with psychedelics, with the agreement that other people’s stories will not be discussed outside the group.
Confidentiality is essential if we are to share knowledge and begin to imagine a future that takes seriously the healing powers of psychedelic medicine.
The initial group will be limited to 20 people and all who apply may not be accepted for this initial group. The ultimate goal is to develop resources for others to use and find ways to eventually include all those with interest in the topic.
