The 2020 MidSchoolMath National Conference will be held on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, 2020 in Santa Fe, NM, US.

The theme of the Conference is Stop the Drop: Enough is Enough. General Sessions, including a Keynote by Geoffrey Canada and presentations by Special Guests Toya Frank, Dan Meyer and the MidSchoolMath team, will share insights, encouragement and best practices into what we as educators can do so that classroom cultures, teaching practices and learning experiences ensure that all students in grades 5 through 8 can be successful in mathematics. We are now looking for the 70+ Concurrent Breakout Sessions that will complement this message for the educators who attend, including teachers, math coaches, principals and district administrators. Concurrent session presenters will demonstrate the power of using story, experiential education, hands-on learning, effective feedback, deeper learning, number sense, educational equity, learning for all and and other cutting-edge practices to transform the math classroom.

CALL FOR PRESENTER SUBMISSION DEADLINES
MidSchoolMath uses a staggered review process, filling up to 2/3 of the available session slots during the first round of reviews. We encourage all presenters to apply as early as possible to increase the likelihood of being accepted.

Round 1: Submit by June 30, 2019 and expect to be notified by August 1, 2019.
Round 2: Submit by September 16, 2019; expect to be notified by October 11, 2019.

CONFERENCE STRUCTURE
Concurrent Sessions are scheduled on both Friday and Saturday, with 10-12 sessions taking place simultaneously in small, medium and large breakout rooms during each breakout period. Practicing educators, teacher trainers and those working in academics, teacher training or educational research are all welcome to apply to present. Sessions may be presented by an individual or teams of up to four individuals. Individuals and teams may submit multiple proposed sessions, but please complete and submit a separate proposal form for each session

PROPOSING A SESSION
Successful proposals are clear and succinct, conveying specific information that will help our review team fully understand the premises of your session and the concepts presented. Ideal concurrent sessions will embody one or more of MidSchoolMath's core tenants of pedagogy (Need to Know, Effective Feedback, Deeper Learning, Including Story) and reflect the shift from traditional stand-and-deliver slide presentations to engaging interactions that support meaningful, memorable learning for a diverse group of educators.

Two types of concurrent sessions are presented at the conference: Master Classes and Cafe Sessions. You will be asked to indicate the type of session you are proposing.

Master Class Sessions: These 75-minute sessions provide the time necessary to present transformational topics, explore new ideas in pedagogy, review powerful methodology or workshop strategies for implementation that support students' conceptual learning, and explore them in more detail with session attendees. Experienced presenters are encouraged to apply, along with first-time presenters who will need a longer time slot to truly explore their topic with attendees.
Cafe Sessions: These 45-minute sessions are the perfect place to share a sample lesson you've developed, showcase a math story project, or discuss a specialized topic. An ideal format for both experienced and first-time presenters.

PRESENTER EXPECTATIONS
In keeping with standard practices for national conferences, accepted presenters from this Call for Presenters will receive a special discounted registration rate of $350 per person. Please note that this presenter registration fee and all travel and accommodations are the responsibility of presenters and/or their employer.

Accepted presenters will be required to confirm their acceptance of the opportunity to present by November 1, 2019 and register for the Conference and complete A/V Requirement Forms by December 31, 2019.
