Acting Al Fresco, ages 8-13
Take your pretend to the next level by acting out a short scene from a popular play, film or TV show! And make the most of the outdoors this Spring with scenes set, rehearsed and performed outside!

Students will learn and apply basic acting concepts in order begin to build a believable character in a scene. In each class, we will warm up together, play some theatre games, experiment with acting techniques and rehearse short scenes that are chosen from provided materials. Focus will be on using the environment to build believability.

Students will perform their scenes in the final class -- family are invited to attend and picnic for Happy Hour!. Acting concepts learned in class nurture imagination and lay a foundation for literary analysis and writing skills. Weekly 1 hour 20min sessions for 6 weeks. 2nd graders should be advanced readers. Class culminates with a showcase performance on the last class.

Class will take place in Opal Daniels park, about 2.5 blocks from PBES, 4.5 from TPMS. Best entrance is the intersection of Hancock and Sheridan. Rain or shine (we will have access to a gazebo during rain). If severe weather is imminent, we may shift to my home 19 Sherman Ave next to the park.

Friday 4:10-5:30pm, starts Apr 10. Final class is 5/15 w/ performance at 5:15 (easy to remember!).  Cost $195. Limit of 11 students.

This class is taught by Gretchen Weigel Doughty. I have an MFA in Theatre and have been teaching theatre classes/camps for the City of Takoma Park and in Takoma Park schools for over 15 years (and have a recent background check). My students have performed on and off Broadway and regionally.
