At the Asylum Support Clinic (ASC), we assist immigrants as they pursue their asylum claims pro se. ASC’s primary support is to help them to prepare and file their I-589 asylum application, declaration (personal statement), and once they are eligible, to then file their work authorization application. ASC volunteers and staff do not represent asylum seekers in court, but we do help them complete and file their asylum application, with attorney oversight.
The work at ASC takes place in cycles and Cycle 15 will be a 6-week cycle. The clinic meets at a church on the Upper West Side three hours once a week on six consecutive Tuesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
Each asylum seeker is paired with a volunteer Document Drafter and Interpreter and they work as a team throughout the clinic cycle. At the same time, childcare volunteers engage the children on another floor of the clinic and volunteer attorneys provide guidance to the teams.
Cycle 15 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 and will proceed to meet weekly on Tuesday evenings through Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
We won’t know until sometime in mid-October if you will have a role in the upcoming cycle. Please note that priority is given to folks who are available for all six clinic sessions. Thanks in advance for signing up and for your patience while we figure out our volunteer needs for Cycle 15.
