Schenectady Community Ministries Food Pantry Volunteer Sign Up
Tuesday, March 24th, 2020 (updated)

Dear siblings in faith,

As we rise up to face the coronavirus as one local community, nation and world together, it has become increasingly clear to us at Schenectady Clergy Against Hate that members of our respective faith communities are being called to assist our collective effort in a wide variety of ways. For the vast majority of us the number one thing we can do right now is staying home, keeping calm, and practicing good social distancing as much as possible to slow down transmission of the virus. For others however, especially those of us who are less likely to face serious complications from the virus and who don't have an immunocomprimised loved one at home, we may feel called to volunteer and ensure vital services to our neighbors in need remain operational.

While the Schenectady Community Ministries Food Pantry, our county's largest emergency food provider, remains fully operational and it's volunteer base remains strong, a call has been put out to our respective faith communities to provide up to five additional volunteers each day the food pantry is in operation. The food pantry is located at 839 Albany Street in Schenectady.

Over the next few weeks the SICM Food Pantry will need volunteers Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30a - 11:30a. As the situation is fluid, additional volunteers may be needed for additional times and days, as well as the possibility of increasing food delivery to clients who cannot leave their homes.

All who are interested in participating are encouraged to fill out the short form below and Ariel White, SICM's Food Pantry Director, will be in contact with you at least a day before your service is needed. If you've never volunteered at the SICM food pantry previously, training will be provided and the pantry is strictly following all public health guidelines in terms of disinfecting, social distancing, etc. to limit any additional exposure to clients, volunteers and staff at the pantry.

This information will only be shared with staff of the SICM Food Pantry, although this list may be expanded to help provide volunteer support to additional area food pantries if needed.

Thank you so much for your partnership and if you have any questions, please contact Rev. Dustin Wright at pastor@messiahschenectady org.

Sincerely,
Schenectady Clergy Against Hate
