In an effort to do all that we can for our state during this time of crisis, ServeMinnesota and our partner programs are launching the Minnesota AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative. This new initiative is designed to help organizations that need more help than ever to serve our communities, especially in the areas of food insecurity, distance learning, support to help older adults cope with social isolation, and more.

Individuals who join the AmeriCorps Emergency Response Initiative will serve 300 hours over the summer and will receive a living stipend, health insurance and an education award (money that can be used for tuition or student loans). Importantly, we are working with state of Minnesota unemployment officials to assure modest stipends will not disqualify a person from unemployment benefits. We hope this service may also provide a bridge to a career – or even additional service – for the thousands of Minnesotans who have already lost their jobs or upcoming summer internships.

Site Application Information:

Emergency Response AmeriCorps members can serve at a variety of community-based organizations, nonprofits, schools, food banks, local government, etc. A service site benefits a great deal from the opportunity to work with AmeriCorps members; these are passionate people from all walks of life who are committed to getting things done.  

This initiative will run June 8, 2020 – August 15, 2020
To earn the education award, AmeriCorps members must serve 300 hours over the 10 weeks of the term which averages out to 35 hours/week.
