Foot Shape Survey

Hello, this is an informal foot shape survey. I am no scientist, although my school guidance counselors assumed I would be. I am a hobby cordwainer (shoe maker) who makes my own shoes because off the shelf shoes just don't fit, and for years caused me health issues the doctors could never resolve. We occasionally have the attention of shoe manufacturers in our forum, and I will post the results data for them to see. Maybe if there are enough of us with a particular foot shape one of them will find it worth investing in new lasts made for our market.

Both minimal runners and conventional shoe runners welcome to participate. Please pass on the link.

We may be doing a more sophisticated study in the future, so feel free to comment in our group discussion: http://groups.google.com/group/huaraches

    Background Info

When answering questions about "barefoot", please also include experience in minimal shoes that you believe have expanded your foot shape.

    Measurements

Pick one foot to measure. Put your full standing weight down on a piece of paper, and have someone else use a pen to trace your foot. Trace all the way around, including down to the base of each toe. Place a dot at the back of the heel, and the tip of each toe, and draw a line across the widest part of your forefoot, and narrowest part of your arch ending on your trace line. All measurements will be made on these points. Use a ruler that measures in cm. If you share a scan of your tracing, we can use it to make further measurements in the future.
