Terra Nova High School 2025-26                 Incoming 9th Grade Course Selection Form
Welcome to the Terra Nova Family!

This is your student's 9th grade course selection form. Please work with your student to complete and submit this form. Below is some helpful information to assist with the scheduling process:

SIX REQUIRED COURSES
•  All freshmen are required to take six classes: English, Math, Biology, Physical Education, Health/Ethnic Studies, and one elective.

ENGLISH 9 & ENGLISH 9 ENRICHED
•  English 9 is the standard class for all 9th graders.  English 9 Enriched is an accelerated class where students read more advanced novels and move at a faster pace with their reading and writing assignments.  

•  Any student who is interested in taking English 9 Enriched will have the opportunity to take a placement test on either April 26th or May 10th.  Additional information about the testing days will be  sent out separately to parents and students.  There will be two summer books for the summer reading project and an assessment after the start of the school year.  Additional information will be sent out separately from this form.

•  If you are unable to make these dates, 7th and/or 8th grade standardized test scores will be considered.  Submitted tests must clearly show ELA scores.  Please contact the school directly for more information.

MATH PLACEMENT FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN PARTNER SCHOOLS  (BAYSHORE, BRISBANE, JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY, & PACIFICA)
•  An articulation agreement specifies that math placement is determined by the 8th grade school using multiple measures such as test scores, teacher recommendations, and grades.

ELECTIVE CHOICE
•  Every effort is made to give students their first elective choice.
•  If a lower ranked elective choice is scheduled, it will be honored, and no changes will be made.
•  If one of the selections is not available, a similar course may be substituted.

It is recommended that students and parent refer to our course catalog for a description of our available classes.  The catalog is accessible on our website.  Schedule changes are only permitted for class misplacement.
