Bryn Mawr College Symposium Oct. 11 3pm-7pm Call for Papers Place & Health: Celebrating Fullilove’s intellectual contributions

This is an open call for papers for a half-day, interdisciplinary symposium honoring the growing breadth and depth of Dr. Fullilove’s work related to health and place. Through a series of consecutive sessions, community from Bryn Mawr College (particularly though not only from the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research) will critically engage with Fullilove’s work through presentations that center the role of place and the psychological implications of displacement. Fullilove will serve as the keynote speaker and the discussant for many of the sessions.

This symposium will bring together research, practice, and pedagogy, actively celebrating scholarship that brings together health and place as engaged praxis, moving among theory; professional and community work; and education aimed at practical interventions which center the role of place for individuals, families, and communities.

In line with Fullilove’s new work, our symposium deliberately focuses on not only suffering but also the ways that place (and people’s use of it) can help harness resistance, survival, meaning, hope, healing, and collective power – in Fullilove’s terms, we will engage with work on place that brings us “from displacement to empowered collaboration.”

Please submit by Fri., 9/22. Late submissions may be accommodated as program space allows.
