A STATEMENT BY STUDENTS, ALUMNI, FACULTY AND STAFF MEMBERS OF MUSIC DEPARTMENT AT THE CHINESE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG


我們是香港中文大學崇基學院音樂系的學生、職員、校友及老師。作為音樂工作者，我們一直在演奏、創作和教學各方面，實踐音樂藝術對自由和真理的追求。

六月初以來，港府推行修訂「逃犯條例」草案，引起嚴重社會動盪，我們痛心疾首。政府不但未有妥當回應大眾訴求，更容許警察過度使用武力，涉嫌勾結黑幫，襲擊無辜市民和記者，公然扭曲真相，捏造事實。凡此種種對自由和真理的踐踏，我們無法視而不見。

在此，我們呼籲音樂、藝術、文化及社會各界人士，支持民間對政府提出的訴求，於各崗位盡己所能，支援社會運動，珍惜自由，重拾公義，永勿欺妄真理，尋回我們所愛的香港。

We write here as students, alumni, staff and faculty members of the Music Department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. As musicians, we are united by the pursuit of truth and freedom in our professional work as performers, composers, and educators.

Recent incidents of social unrest as sparked by the controversial extradition bill have left many among us deeply shocked and heartbroken. We are disappointed by the government’s failure to properly address the mass civil dissent and the rightful demands of the citizens. We are angered by the apparent excessive use of force by police officers and their alleged collusion with suspected triad gangs in assaulting civilians and reporters. We cannot turn a blind eye to such blatant disregard for justice.

We call on our colleagues in performing arts and other professions and social sectors to do all we can to support causes that will restore justice and peace in Hong Kong.
