A “mnemonic” or “mnemonic device” is a tool to help us memorize lists or sequences. In mathematics, the phrase “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally” or the word “PEMDAS” are used to help us remember the order of operations: Parentheses, then Exponents, then Multiply or Divide, then Add or Subtract.
