Othello - Audition form

Join us in presenting Shakespeare at Kourion 2026

Othello follows the story of Othello, a respected Moorish general in the Venetian army who has secretly married Desdemona. Although admired publicly, Othello becomes the target of his ensign Iago, who resents being passed over for promotion. Determined to ruin him, Iago begins a careful and malicious plan to turn Othello’s world upside down.

In Cyprus, Iago manipulates innocent moments—especially Desdemona’s efforts to help Cassio—into “evidence” of infidelity. Othello’s trust erodes, jealousy takes root, and the once-noble general loses his clarity and judgement. By the time Iago’s lies are exposed, Desdemona and Othello are destroyed, and the remaining characters are left to reckon with the tragedy.

At its core, the play explores how jealousy, insecurity, manipulation, trust, and prejudice can twist even the strongest love into devastating ruin.
