BCS Tractors - August 19th, 2018
Harbin Hill Farms, located three miles west of Mountain City and 1/2 mile up from Highway 67, is a relatively new farming operation focusing on the intensive production of organically grown fruits and vegetables. They also have an apiary, recently approved as "Certified Naturally Grown". Future plans call for the development of a free-range poultry operation. We currently have three hoop houses, a small orchard, and about 1/2 acre of row crops. In addition to selling at the Johnson County and Abingdon Farmers' Markets, they sell to restaurants, at the Boone St. Market in Jonesboro, and at their on-farm market (open during the growing season).

At the workshop, we’ll discuss BCS (two-wheel) tractors and how to incorporate them into a diversified vegetable production system. We’ll discuss how farmer Richard Calkins came to choose BCS and the challenges/successes that he's had using one. We'll also talk about farm apprenticeships, high tunnels, and pastured poultry. Come ready to learn and share your experiences with BCS tractors, farm labor, and experimenting with new enterprises!

Time: 4:30 PM
Location: 1689 Harbin Hill Rd. Mountain City, Tennessee

Please feel free to bring a potluck or covered dish to share. Because this farm has livestock, do not wear shoes that have come near your or others' livestock — make sure your shoes are clean.
