SAANYS Region 6 Jennie C. Pennington Excelsior Award
SAANYS Region 6 honors individuals whose dedication and exceptional contributions throughout their careers have made a difference for children and their school communities by awarding them the Jennie C. Pennington Excelsior Award.

This award is given in name of Jennie C. Pennington, who dedicated her professional career to her students, staff, and community. She was an exemplary English teacher, an involved supervisor, an exceptional high school principal, and champion of the teaching and school leadership professions. A trailblazer during her time, Jennie was always a teacher first and an ardent advocate for children.

Recipients of this award are individuals who have been formally nominated by a SAANYS member and endorsed by the Region 6 executive committee as having an enduring commitment to public education and students. The award winner may be a parent, teacher, community member, or administrator (active or retired) who has dedicated their life’s work in the service of education that supports students’ learning.

The purpose of this award is to acknowledge all that is right in our schools, communities, and to highlight the story that is so often left out in the business of providing quality education to students every day. SAANYS Region 6 is proud to recognize such deserving individuals with the Jennie C. Pennington Excelsior Award.
