A student must be at school, at a school related activity, or receiving academic instruction for at least half of the school day to be counted as present. Students who are not physically present at school but who are receivingd academic instruction from the district for at least half of the school day should be counted as present.
In accordance with the Boston Public Schools attendance policy (https://tinyurl.com/yckzputw), the following are reasons for absences to be excused:
- An illness or injury that prevents the student from attending school. For absences of three or more consecutive days, the illness or injury must be verified by a health care provider or school nurse.
- A positive COVID-19 test requiring a minimum 5-day isolation (
https://www.bostonpublicschools.org/Page/8876)
- A death in the immediate family (parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin) or other significant personal or family crisis (if for more than 3 days, contact Snowden Admin at
snowden-admin@bostonpublicschools.org)
- Court appearances (must bring a note from court)
- Medical or psychological tests or appointments during the school day.
- Visits to special education schools in some cases for students with disabilities
- Religious or cultural holiday (for more information, see Superintendent's Circular ACA-18 and LGL-6)
- College visits. Juniors are eligible for one day, seniors are eligible for two. All other students must use their waiver days, if available.
- Other extraordinary situations, as approved by the school
Absences outside of these reasons are not excused without application and approval from the Head of School. Any supporting documentation must be submitted by a parent or guardian in the file upload included in this form, or to the Snowden Attendance email address,
