Winthrop Public School Reopening Plan Family Survey July 2020
On June 24, 2020 the Winthrop School Committee determined that it is in the best interest of our students and their families to plan for the full in-person return of all WPS Staff for the opening day of school on September 2, 2020 and the preceding Professional Development days. The return of staff will provide our entire community with the necessary structure and routine to begin the healing process caused by the disruption of our sudden and forced school closure. All Teacher Instruction and Learning Activities will take place from school utilizing the appropriate strategies and platforms regardless of the number and/or location of the students.

Knowing there are still more questions than answers please respond to the following survey based on your current understandings of the situation. Your thoughtful responses will guide our work as we develop a reopening plan for WPS.

7. To implement six (6) foot physical distancing recommendations in our classrooms may require limiting in-person student attendance to two (2) or three (3) days per week. Given this constraint please indicate which condition you are most comfortable with. *
8. Should students be required to wear a face covering when they are at school? Please select the descriptor you are most comfortable with at this time. *
9. Creating similar groups of students who will remain together during the day (cohorts) is a suggested strategy to consider. This could involve having the same group of students spend their day together for classes, meals, recess etc. and have teachers and staff travel to them rather than having students move around the school. Please indicate your opinion of the importance of this strategy. *
10. How important is it for all students to have the opportunity to return to school full time in-person when school opens in September? *
11. Please share any other comments, considerations or suggestions.
