The Creating Connections Consortium (C3) Undergraduate Fellows Program at the University of California, Berkeley offers summer research opportunities to sophomores, juniors, and seniors (not graduating in the spring or summer 2019) who are attending one of the lead Liberal Arts Colleges affiliated with the Liberal Arts Diversity Officers Association (LADO). The program is an eight-week intensive experience that will commence on Monday, June 10, 2019 and continue through Saturday, August 3, 2019.

The C3 Undergraduate Fellows Program's goal is to increase the level of diversity among students entering Ph.D. programs by providing research opportunities under the supervision of a faculty and/or graduate student mentor. Program objectives are: to provide students with preparation to become research scholars; to stimulate serious consideration of graduate study; to increase the number of successful underserved applicants and to enroll these students in graduate school, preferably at Berkeley.

This year, the C3 Program at Berkeley will be working directly with the Digital Humanities Project at Berkeley. Because of this, applicants who are making use of the digital humanities in their research methodology will be given primary consideration. The Digital Humanities is an area of scholarly activity at the intersection of computing, new media, and the disciplines of the humanities. The nature of this activity ranges broadly, from the practical, such as digitizing historical texts, to the philosophical, such as reflection on the nature of representation itself.

Applicants from diverse populations and backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education are encouraged to apply. Applicants who have shown potential for success, but may have had limited access to graduate research or other academic opportunities will also be prioritized.
