GirlForward is a community of support dedicated to creating and enhancing opportunities for girls who have been displaced by conflict and persecution. GirlForward provides high school girls who have been resettled as refugees with individual mentorship, educational programs, and leadership opportunities.

We are currently recruiting interns who can support the EDUCATION, MENTORING, SAFE SPACES, COMMUNICATIONS and DEVELOPMENT programs for summer 2018 in both AUSTIN, TX and CHICAGO, IL!

GENERAL INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
All GirlForward internships are unpaid. Desired qualifications include:
- Current college or graduate student.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work well independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate in Arabic, Swahili, Farsi, or Burmese a plus but not required.
- Must have a strong commitment to social justice and community engagement.
- Must believe in the practice of cultural humility and critically analyze their own identity, culture, power, and belief
system in relation to the community.
- Must believe in the power of girls to create positive change in their communities and the world!

CAMP TEACHING INTERNSHIP
Camp GirlForward is a 6-week summer program where girls simultaneously build English skills, explore their identity, and learn about the world around them. Lessons are focused on identity, community, and power.

Teaching Interns support the Education Program Manager as teaching assistants in the classroom and during enrichment activities. Specific responsibilities include:
- Assisting lead teacher with classroom management.
- Assisting lead teacher with curriculum development.
- Working one-on-one with girls in the classroom.
- Leading small groups of 7-10 girls in literature circles and activities.

Preferred qualifications specific to TEACHING INTERNSHIP
- Studying education or has relevant experience in a classroom.
- Preferred experience working with English language learners.
- Experience facilitating team building activities.

Camp GirlForward Internships will run from June 17th - August 2nd. Teaching interns will work 30-35 hours per week. Hours may vary but will most likely be M-F 9AM-4PM for the duration.

CAMP LOGISTICS INTERNSHIP
Camp GirlForward is a 6-week summer program where girls simultaneously build English skills, explore their identity, and learn about the world around them. Lessons are focused on identity, community, and power.

Logistics Interns support the Education Program Manager as program assistants during enrichment activities and field trips. Specific responsibilities include:
- Assisting lead teacher with community service projects.
- Assisting with planning and coordination of field trips
- Working one-on-one with girls in the community
- Completing administrative tasks such as preparing materials, monitoring supplies, cleaning classroom, and attendance related data entry.

Preferred qualifications specific to LOGISTICS INTERNSHIP
- Experience navigating public transit and leading groups throughout cities.
- Experience facilitating team building activities.

Camp GirlForward will run from June 17th - August 2nd. Logistics interns will work 30-35 hours per week. Hours may vary but will most likely be M-F 10 AM-5 PM for the duration.

MENTORING INTERNSHIP
The Mentoring Programs pairs girls with adult women who meet once a week in the girls homes and build a friendship.

Mentoring interns support the Mentoring Program Manager as a program assistant.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assisting staff with participant recruitment.
- Assisting staff with volunteer management.
- Engaging community through special events, workshops, and home visits.
- Completing administrative tasks such as data entry and evaluation.

Mentoring Interns will work at minimum 16 hours in a week but times of commitment may vary related to tasks such as nights or weekends. Hours and schedule will be determined with staff and candidate. Mentoring Intern applicants should select a unit for which they would like to work from below:
Option 1: (Spring/Summer) 5/13/19 through 8/16/19
Option 2: (Spring) 5/13/19 through 6/30/19
Option 3: (Summer) 7/1/19 through 8/16/19

SAFE SPACES INTERNSHIP
The Safe Spaces Program cultivates spaces where girls can explore their identities, connect to other girls and access resources they need. Safe Spaces programming includes drop in spaces, peace circles, and support groups.

Safe Spaces interns support the Safe Spaces Program Manager as a program assistant.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assisting staff with volunteer management.
- Assisting staff with program design and evaluation.
- Assisting staff with peace circle and support group curriculum.
- Completing administrative tasks such as data entry and evaluation.

Safe Spaces Interns will work at minimum 16 hours in a week but times of commitment may vary related to tasks such as nights or weekends. Hours and schedule will be determined with staff and candidate. Safe Spaces Intern applicants should select a unit for which they would like to work from below:

COMMUNICATIONS & DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP
The Communications & Development team promotes GirlForward’s mission, brand and programs through our website, email, and social media as well as donor communications. The communications & development intern work on strategic communications, digital organizing and content creation for our social media channels, website, and email newsletter.

Communications & Development interns support the Communications & Development Team as a program assistant.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Implementing communication strategies.
- Researching social media and digital campaigns.
- Curating and post online content.
- Completing administrative tasks such as data entry and evaluation.

The Communications & Development Intern will work at minimum 16 hours in a week but times of commitment may vary related to tasks such as nights or weekends. This will be determined with staff and candidate. Communications & Development Intern applicants should select a unit for which they would like to work from below:
