Fall 2019 Bristol CERT Basic Training Signup

Hello! Bristol CERT is sponsoring a Basic Training for CERT for people who would like to be trained in the skills needed to be prepared to help when emergencies and disasters affect communities, families, and the workplace.

Additionally, becoming "CERT Certified" will allow you to join Bristol CERT, or any other CERT team in Connecticut after your training. You do not have to join a team after your training. This class is offered to the public without obligation. You will also receive additional preparedness materials and equipment as part of attending this class.

The training is FREE. Classes will be held at Bristol Fire Engine Co. Station #4., 18 Vincent P Kelly Rd, Bristol, CT 06010 on weekday nights from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, starting Thursday, September 26th and concluding Thursday November 14th, for 7 weeks (October 31st will be skipped) and 1 Saturday AM skills review class/Graduation on Saturday, November 16th. We ask that all students are available for every class.

We expect perfect attendance, as all the classroom time is required. There will be accommodation for absences and make-up classes are offered at the discretion of the instructor. We will work with you for work, life, and vacation conflicts that are reasonable, but we cannot guarantee certification or graduation if multiple classes are missed

The suggested minimum age for training is 18 years old. Exceptions for those who are 16 and 17 years old can be made by discretion of the instructor.

*From the instructor - We can and will accommodate any and all persons wishing to take this training. Disability, cultural and ethnic diversity, age, language, sexual identity, gender, personal background - community is all of us, so everyone is welcome! As I like to say, who we are is always an asset.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, which allows them to focus on more complex tasks. Through CERT, the capabilities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters is built and enhanced.
