CALLING FOR SPEAKERS AND ARTISTS TO PERFORM AT THE 2019 WOMXN’S MARCH DENVERSATURDAY, JANUARY 19, 2019
Womxn’s March Denver is seeking proposals for speakers and artists to perform at the 2019 Womxn’s March. Although we have extremely limited spots available, we’d love to have you submit your ideas. Our theme this year is LISTEN. UNITE. ACT. and our program will be guided by this theme. Please visit our website www.womxnsmarchdenver.org for more details about our theme. We are planning a pre- and post-march rally to be no more than 2 hours in length total. There will also be performance opportunities while the march is taking place.
Generally, we first LISTEN to voices that are and have been marginalized. Then we UNITE by marching. And we ACT by engaging with nonprofits/organizations that focus on womxn and girls, who are doing the work to uplift the voices of marginalized populations.
We are prioritizing hearing from lived experiences in order to promote inter-sectional perspectives at the march. We are particularly interested in elevating voices from the following communities: Queer and Trans, people with physical and mental health concerns, youth, people who have experienced sexual assault, immigrant communities (refugees, documented/undocumented), people with perspectives on police brutality, community healers and restorative justice practitioners, and native and indigenous communities.
Speakers/Artists that model allyship (how have you been an ally or accomplice to communities that have been marginalized) will also be prioritized.
Requirements for selection:--Speeches must be no longer than 2 minutes in length--Performances must be no longer than 3 minutes in length--Must follow submission process of using the Google form including submit your speech or artistic idea for review by a panel of 3 community leaders (Regan Byrd, Brenda Moreno, and Angela Astle)--No prior speaking/performing history is necessary, but must be comfortable speaking in front of a large group--While we don’t wish to censor what you are speaking or sharing about, we do hope to include voices that speak to a healing and optimistic tone.
Deadline for submissions:Saturday, December 18, at midnight
Decisions will be made on or approximately by January 8. There will be a “get to know each other” celebration for the artists and speakers at a date, time, and location TBD the week before the march.
