Refill Station Supplies Request Form
In 2020, we began the water refilling station program to support the Black Lives Matter movement by providing water and reusable bottles at marches, rallies, and other events. Today we have expanded the program to include other local events such as Pride Fest, Chill on the Hill, and HkeMKE. Since our program began we have prevented over 6,500 single-use plastic water bottles and interest increases each year. This program is supported by our volunteers and strives to provide a model for hosting plastic-free events.

How it works: Plastic-Free MKE provides 5-gallon water jugs from Clear and Fresh Water Inc., a Milwaukee-owned business, and PFMKE-branded reusable aluminum water bottles if desired. Event attendees can also bring their own water bottles to refill! Volunteers (yours or ours) will pump the water for participants to reduce spilling and pump handle contamination. We can also provide general information on plastics and the Plastic-Free MKE movement at your event.

Please fill out the form below to request supplies for water refill stations at your chosen event. NOTE: This form must be submitted a minimum of two weeks in advance to ensure we can gather and purchase all required supplies.

We have provided guidelines below on how many water jugs and water bottles to request based on the amount of people you anticipate at your event. Please consider making a donation towards the cost of the water jugs and/or water bottles if you can do so (particularly for larger events). The number of events we can attend, and the amount of supplies we are able to provide, depends on funding and volunteer availability.

Guidelines

Water Jugs:

Each water jug is 5 gallons or 640 ounces.
  • Approximately 40 (16 oz.) bottle refills from one 5 gallon jug (5gal/40refills) 
  • One 5-gallon water jug costs $15 
Water Bottles:

Each aluminum water bottle is 26 ounces
  • Approximately 24 (26 oz.) water bottles can be filled with one 5-gallon jug
  • One box of aluminum water bottles costs $126
  • There are 36 bottles per box
Things to Consider:
  • Number of people attending the event (This will prevent you from requesting too much water!) We cannot return water jugs to Clean and Fresh Water Inc.
  • Weather (e.g. summer/spring/fall; hot; indoors/outdoors)
  • Length of event - people may not get water if they are only attending for a short period of time
  • Will people bring their own reusable water bottles? Consider encouraging this in your event promotions
  • Be mindful of how many water jugs you request -- unless it's a longer and/or hot outdoor event, you will not need water for every attendee
If you can, please consider donating towards the cost of the water jugs or water bottles you are requesting so that we can support more community events. Plastic-Free MKE has a limited amount of funding available for this service.

Important Note
Thank you for requesting a Plastic-Free MKE refill station at your event! We appreciate your interest in reducing single-use plastic waste. We are primarily operated by volunteers, and we cannot guarantee our attendance at your event, however, we will do our best to accommodate your request. Thank you for your understanding.

We also cannot give back purchased water jugs from Clear & Fresh Water, so please be mindful of how many water jugs you request. Our storage capacity for leftover water jugs is limited. We can make personalized recommendations for your event to help you plan appropriately. If you order more than the recommended amount and have to return multiple jugs of water to us, we may request a donation to help cover the additional time necessary to find appropriate storage.
