The world is facing the biggest refugee crisis since the Second World War and the number of refugees worldwide is continuing to rise. A lack of safe routes to protection, welcome and support has not stopped people fleeing to Europe; it has only made their journey more dangerous. We must act quickly to stop more deaths.
In September 2015 the UK committed to resettle 20,000 Syrians. This was an important first step towards a comprehensive and effective response to a global refugee crisis, but it is only a first step, and there is so much more than we can, and must, do.
We are calling on the UK to ensure routes to safety for refugees and save lives by:• Allowing refugees to safely and legally join family members in the UK• Providing sanctuary to our fair share of refugees arriving in Europe• Significantly increasing the number of resettlement places available to refugees• Helping ensure there are adequate search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean
We’re going to be taking the petition to 10 Downing Street in mid-March, along with 3,772 paper boats, one for every person who drowned last year. When you sign the petition, we’ll make a boat with your name on it to take to Downing Street. If you’d like to make your own boat, find out how here: http://bit.ly/STARboats
Sign our petition now to ask for safe routes to save lives.
