Request leave of absence due to exceptional circumstances
We believe that regular attendance at school is vital for children to learn, grow, develop and achieve their full potential. Therefore, the default position taken by the school is not to approve requests for absences during term time.

We restrict leave of absence in line with DfE policy to the specific circumstances set out in regulation 11 of the School Attendance (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2024. These do give headteachers the discretion to authorise absence during term time in exceptional circumstances. We view this as raresignificant, and unavoidable.

Absence requests for any of the following reasons will not be authorised:

- Holidays and trips (despite the educational and wellbeing benefits they can confer and the cheaper term-time prices)

- Leisure or recreational activities

- Family events, such as weddings, birthday celebrations, visits and reunions, and graduation ceremonies
