FSU Petition Signature Collection
Dear Colleagues,

At a moment when public sector union bargaining rights—and higher education itself—are under unprecedented state attack, the below petition asks our UMB administration to fulfill its responsibility to our campus by immediately bargaining fairly and faithfully with the FSU. To make our collective voice heard, please fill out the following form to 1) sign the petition and 2) indicate your interest in joining FSU to deliver the petition in person to the upper administration.

FSU DEMANDS A FAIR CONTRACT NOW!

To: Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco, Provost Joseph Berger, Vice Chancellor Marie Bowen, and Vice Chancellor Kathleen Kirleis

We, the members of the Faculty Staff Union, DEMAND that you immediately direct your bargaining team to meaningfully engage with our proposals. We require an agreement that properly addresses the urgent needs of our members—the faculty and librarians whose essential work powers UMass Boston for our students and community. The most pressing needs include:

  • Competitive, livable salaries for all faculty and librarians
  • Full Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) raises for all faculty and librarians

  • Retention and Longevity Raises

  • An end to the Associate Lecturer Rank—Promote ALs to Lecturer

  • Shorter time to promotion for NTT faculty

Our contract expired on June 30, 2024—almost 9 months ago. Since bargaining began, Admin’s representatives have:

  • Arrived late, ended early, and threatened to leave in session
  • Come unprepared to bargaining

  • Refused to respond to proposals

  • Offered nothing to improve the lives of faculty and librarians, and

  • Dragged out the process at every turn.

We demand that the Administration take our concerns—and the bargaining process itself—seriously and work with the FSU to reach an agreement that our members will be willing to ratify.
