The goal of this workshop is assess high impact applications of Data Science in Precision Medicine, Health Analytics, and Health Disparities. For this purpose, we have attempted to convene diverse stakeholders involved in this emerging field, including industry, academia, national laboratories, and nonprofits, whose expertise cuts across several traditional disciplines. Industry speakers have been specifically selected to share their perspective on high-impact applications or challenges surrounding the use of data science and informatics in the topics above. Attendees will come from academic research institutions across the 16 states that comprise the South Big Data Innovation Hub. Participants will engage in active scoping and round-table discussions in order to build partnerships across high-impact application verticals.
The South Big Data Innovation Hub accelerates partnerships among people in business, academia, and government that apply data science and analytics to societal and economic challenges important to the region. The South Hub is part of a national network of four Big Data Innovation Hubs in the United States, and individually includes more than 400 members from both the private and public sectors. The South Hub is co-managed by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with primary funding from the National Science Foundation.
