Thanks for checking out this anonymous survey. I hope to use it for two things:

First, I'd like to ask you some anonymous questions about "happiness." That's been our theme lately, and I hope to report back to you in the aggregate how people in this community live, and how happy we all report being—maybe broken down by age, or profession, or marital status, etc.

Second, I'd like to get some more feedback about the newsletter, along with demographic information that potential advertisers and partners keep asking me about—and also so I can mention some of it in a book proposal I'm working on. (We did this part a year ago, but our subscriber base is significantly bigger now.)

OK, the big "happiness question." On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you? (1 = not happy; 10 = very, very happy).

I know "happiness' could mean a lot of things, but I really just want to ask it open-ended like this.

I wrote recently about the Harvard Grant Study, which concludes there is a connection between friend relationships and happiness. With that in mind, can I ask how many good friends you'd say that you have?

A lot of people have offered me a lot of advice about "the business of Understandably." It's a labor of love, but it's still a lot of work. One thing that keeps coming up is the idea of putting some newsletter content behind a paywall. If we did that, how do you think would you react?
