READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. LEGAL STUFF.

KZUU is a non-commercial college radio station. This means we do not play any music that is popular on large corporate radio stations. We must remain true to the constitution written at the formation of our radio station, which requires us to only play non-commercial music. If a staff member has a problem with something you’re playing, they will request that you stop playing it in the future. You can be fired for repeatedly breaking rules like these.

We must abide by FCC rules involving obscenity. This means DJs must never swear on the air. There is no debate about this issue, we can’t afford the FCC fines involved with breaking these laws. Obscene lyrics can only be played between the hours of 10pm and 6am, so-called “Safe Harbor” hours. Outside these hours, if you miss something and one sneaks through, cut the song and immediately apologize. If this becomes a repeated problem you will lose your show.

All DJs are responsible for regularly attending their show. Substitutes are always available. If a DJ doesn’t show up without attempting to find a substitute, they will receive a strike. We operate on a simple “three strikes and you’re out” rule for this and most other policies.

DJs are held legally and financially responsible for any missing or damaged KZUU property. We can and will prosecute for theft of any equipment gone missing. Guests in the studio are the responsibility of the DJ on the air. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted in the studio, period. This also goes for anywhere on WSU grounds. If you or your guest are found in violation of this policy you will be terminated and reported to campus police. Drinking or using drugs at KZUU could lead to suspension, fines, community service, or expulsion.
