Bass Line 2025 Application Form
Bass Line is a series of music and music-making workshops from Radio Buena Vida.  that will run between June and August 2025 

Radio Buena Vida is an online community radio station that champions and platforms emerging as well as established talent across all music genres in Glasgow and beyond. We aim to be an inclusive and welcoming platform for under-represented voices and music. You can find out more about us or listen online at www.buenavida.co.uk 

You are eligible to apply if you are a young person aged between 18 and 25 who has faced personal or financial barriers to accessing music and music-making opportunities. The workshops will focus on DJing, mixing, music production, music curation and selection, radio broadcasting and radio presenting, storytelling through sound, music business and more. (*Applications will be considered up to the age of 30 years old if you have a disability, are a young carer or care experienced person).

Each workshops series will comprise of a blend of tutored sessions and practise sessions ending with the creation and broadcasting of a radio show on Radio Buena Vida that will be archived and available to listen back to on the station's Soundcloud. 

This year, for the first time, each workshops series will also include a masterclass session from a different invited DJ/artist from elsewhere in the UK or Europe that is blazing a trail in their scene. The masterclass will give you the opportunity to learn, not only music and music-making skills and expertise, but also to hear about their experience of working in the music industry, how they have navigated barriers they have faced and get advice for whatever stage of your music journey you are at. l

No previous experience in music making is required. Places are limited to 6 people on each workshop. 

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Sunday 18th May. The relevant workshops facilitators will assess the applications together with David Fleming and Suz O'Neill, the Co-Founders of Radio Buena Vida. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 23rd May with the first sessions starting on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th June, 2025.

Workshop 1 will be run by  Wheelman and  más allá on Monday evenings from 6pm to 9pm on June 9th, June 16th, June 23rd, June 30th, July 7th and July 14th with a live radio broadcast and listening party on Wednesday, July 30th from 6pm to 8pm.

Jonny & Alex’s workshops will cover:
* Collecting and organising music
* Counting music, beat matching and mixing
* Use of CDJ’s and it’s various functions
* Use of Turntables and vinyl
* Structuring DJ sets/Radio Shows
* Radio show preparation and presentation

Workshop 2 will be run ISO YSO and Karin on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm on June 10th, June 17th, June 24th, July 1st and July 8th, July 15th with a live radio broadcast and listening party on Wednesday, July 30th from 8pm to 10pm.

Iso & Karin’s workshop series will cover:
* Curating a Music Selection: Mood, Intent & Flow
* Buying Music & Understanding the Equipment
* Rekordbox Tutorial & Organising Music Library
* Intro to DJ Equipment + Basic Beat-Matching
* Mixing Techniques, FX & Style Development
* Working in the Industry: Gigs, Prep & Q&A

Workshop 3 will be run by Ana (aka Lunattic Sounds) & Char on Monday evenings from 6pm to 9pm on July 21st, July 28th, August 4th, August 11th, August 18th and August 25th with a live radio broadcast and listening party on Saturday 30th August from 4pm to 6pm.

Ana & Char’s workshops will cover:
* Experimental Sound Exploration
* Music-Making using Ableton Live (any style/ genre welcomed)
* Sampling
* Deep Listening
* Collaboration
* Storytelling through sound
* PLAY

Workshop 4 will be run by Hiba & Ria on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm on July 22nd, July 29th, August 5th, August 12th, August 19th and August 26th with a live radio broadcast and listening party on Saturday 30th August from 6pm to 8pm.

Hiba & Ria’s workshops will cover:
* DJ’ing
* Mixing on CDJ’s
* Using Rekordbox
* Mixing Vinyl
* The Art of Music Curation & Selection
* Radio Production & Presenting
