Learn to Build Your Own Gadget (BYOG)
Learn to take a circuit from breadboard to PCB.
We’ll show you how to design your own PCB, fabricate it for you, and we’ll even teach you the art of soldering to get it up and working.
At the end of the course, you'll get to bring home your very own DIY Arduino Word Clock!
DIY Arduino Word Clock

All sessions cover both theory and practical aspects.

<< Session 01 (FREE): Learning to read datasheets and build a circuit on a breadboard >>
The first session covers breadboard basics, understanding what the pins on the modules mean, and how to interface them to an Arduino (in this case, a pro mini)

<< Session 02: Drawing up a schematic in EAGLE based on your breadboard circuit >>
Learn to use EAGLE to draw up schematics, how to check for errors, as well as tips on how to get and use open source libraries available online.

<< Session 03: 2-Layer PCB board design in EAGLE, adding in your own silkscreen artwork, and preparing the files for fabrication >>
Learn to find your way around the EAGLE software when designing your own board, what is considered good practices, how to design your own logo/artwork and import it into the board’s silkscreen layer, what the different layers are, how to check for errors, how to prepare and check gerber files for fabrication houses, and various tips along the way.

<< Session 04: Soldering through-hole and SMD components >>
Session 4 is where the PCBs are back from the fabrication house, and we’ll be teaching you how to use a variable temperature soldering station, what temperatures are best for through-hole and SMT components, and how to solder both types, and again, plenty of tips from experience.
You will bring back you own working Arduino Word clock, and a couple more spare PCBs of what you designed.

***Note: The word clock is designed in a modular way to allow you to easily re-use the modules in other projects should you wish to do so.
