Lift Every Voice - Vocal Scholarship Application
Lift Every Voice has two goals: Create space for students of vocal music in the Lake Cumberland region, and provide 2 six-month scholarships for students who cannot currently afford private singing lessons.

Students in 6th-12th grades are eligible to apply for the program. Only students who cannot currently afford private singing lessons will be considered. If chosen, students will receive and commit to 24 weekly 30-minute voice lessons to begin in September, at no cost to them. Lessons will be held at McNeil Music Center, unless it is unsafe due to COVID-19 or unless the student does not have the transportation means to make it to Somerset. In which case, they will take place via Zoom.

The program’s name, Lift Every Voice, comes from the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” This name was chosen in support of lifting our voices against injustices, and to continue bringing our community together through song.

This scholarship is an equal opportunity for students of all races, gender identities, and sexualities.

Statement of Financial Need (This can be provided by the parent/guardian/mentor.) *
Statement of Accessibility Constraints (This can be provided by the parent/guardian/mentor. Please consider factors such as getting to voice lessons, internet access, and device access such as phone or tablet. These things are NOT required, but the student must be willing to find a work around with the teacher.) *
Please provide the contact information for a reference from a teacher or guidance counselor. This may be a music teacher in your life, but it does not have to be. It can be any teacher or counselor who knows you and your work ethic. Email and/or phone is preferred. *
Why do you want to pursue voice lessons? You may write a short paragraph here, or upload a link to a video sharing your answer. (Helpful hint: Just be honest. Not everybody wants to be a rockstar, and that's okay. Some people do, and that's okay too. I want to know about YOU!) *
Drop a video link with an example of your singing here. You can do this via YouTube. This may be created especially for this application, or it can be something you already have. This does NOT need to be professional quality. Use what you have available to you. If you are unable to upload a video, please email balltripvoicestudio@gmail.com to make other arrangements. *
I understand that if I am chosen for the final round, my parent, guardian, or mentor and I will meet with Amanda Balltrip via Zoom interview at a scheduled time TBD. *
I understand that if I am chosen for the Lift Every Voice program that I am committing to 24 weeks (6 months) of private, weekly voice instruction beginning September 2020. If I am chosen, I will be expected to uphold this commitment by showing up, taking responsibility for myself, and by practicing. I will be expected to manage my schedule in a way that does not clash with voice lessons. I will be open to new ideas about singing, and to beneficial criticism that will help me become a stronger, healthier singer and storyteller. *
