K-12 teachers from across California are invited to apply for participation in the 2021-2022 Teaching for Sustainable Communities (TSC) program. This is a signature program of the California Global Education Project (
calglobaled.org).
We start with a 5-day summer synchronous and asynchronous institute, followed by 2 additional meetings during the year, and ending in a student environmental showcase. Participants will gain knowledge and resources to incorporate issues of sustainable development and global citizenship into their curriculums, and be supported throughout the year as they work with their students on projects that tackle sustainability and/or environmental justice issues.
At the Summer Institute, participants will:
* Explore Environmental Principles and Concepts and examine how they are integrated into California frameworks and standards.
* Develop students' global competence while addressing the U.N. Sustainable Development Goal #11, Sustainable cities and communities.
* Provide students with the tools they need to become up-standers in their local and global communities.
* Develop a curriculum plan for a student environmental showcase in Spring 2022.
* Hear from diverse voices about environmental justice, native land use and inequity in access to green space, and water use.
Dates of the Summer Institute:
June 21-25, 9 am – 1PM, synchronous time with afternoon asynchronous time to work on action plan and/or field study.
Cost: Registration fee waived
$250 stipend for those who complete the entire program.
Units will be available through University of San Diego ($225 for 3 units).
