The People's Beth Midrash: Jerusalem: Elul 5780
Your friends from The People's Beth Midrash: Northampton and the Jerusalem Queer Beit Midrash are coming together to offer some rad learning in Jerusalem this Elul, where we can bring our full selves in preparation for the Days of AWESOME!

In this 3 week course, we'll learn a Talmudic selection in the original Hebrew/Aramaic together in committed pairs (hevrutha) & community-a practice of radical empathy as we collaboratively claim our tradition. We'll learn the Talmud as the radical project that it is and center the contributions and voices that have been historically marginalized. Inspired by Chicago based SVARA’s method: "hardcore, queer, and radically inclusive."

Taught by Mimi Farb, Torah teacher, community organizer, writer, femme rebel.

We'll meet on Tuesday nights 6-8:30
Sept. 8, 15, & 22

Location: We're hoping to make an outdoor location in Jerusalem work, but if need be, we will switch to online (with shortened hours). Please see the section on location below.

For more behind the scenes on SVARA's approach that inspires our radical Beth Midrash, you can get yourself acquainted with this 17 minute ELI Talk by SVARA's Benay Lappe:

What's your name? *
What pronouns do you use?
We are very much hoping that we can meet in person in a safe way.
If you have a suggestion for a spot in Jerusalem, or even better, have a balcony or garden you can offer, please email Mimi ASAP :-)
If we meet in an outdoor space, the vision is to find someplace quiet and bring lanterns for adequate lighting.
In these uncertain times, there is always the possibility that we will need to switch to online mode, which we will do if needed.
In either scenario, it is of utmost importance to us that the Beth Midrash be as accessible as possible. In that vein, please indicate your access needs in the section below, especially with concern to location so that we can plan accordingly. Thank you! <3

Financial Contribution - suggested 15-60 NIS per sesssion
In recognition of the skills, time and energy that goes into preparing, teaching, and facilitating this program, we ask for a financial contribution. Please feel free to contribute as much or as little as you are able.
That said, financial contribution is in no way a pre-requisite for joining the learning sessions.
The Torah we learn is only as powerful as the voices we have in the room, and the most important thing is to have you there with us.

Payments can be made through Paybox (+972-55-553-1079).
For other ways to pay or with any questions/feedback - please email Mimi (
What are your accessibility needs, or anything else you want us to know? We are committed to making this experience as accessible and welcoming as possible!
In order to build community, and to birth this project into reality, we'll need your help! That might mean bringing lanterns, food, helping with setup or cleanup etc. Once you register we'll send you a spreadsheet where you can volunteer. Yay!
Looking forward to learning with you!
