The Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS) is a summer enrichment program for high school students who are open to the challenges of higher mathematics and natural sciences. Michigan Math and Science Scholars attend summer courses at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, on topics of current mathematical and scientific research.

The MMSS program is hiring a number of college students that will serve as COUNSELORS for the residential portion of the program.

Candidates are expected to work June 21 – August 3, 2019. THIS INCLUDES THE 4TH OF JULY HOLIDAY, nights and weekends.

Session I: June 23 - July 5
Session II: July 7 - July 19
Session III: July 21 - August 2

Residence Hall Counselors supervise the Michigan Math and Science Scholars participants during the non-academic hours of the program. This is a residential position based in a university residence hall. You will organize, facilitate, and execute group social activities in the evening hours every weekday and on the weekends.

You will participate in field trips and chaperone students on group outings (MMSS will pay for your admission fees while doing so!). Most importantly, you will provide guidance to students, serving as a positive role model at all times for participants.

The position requires weekend and evening participation. You will be expected to work from 4:30 pm until 8:30 am the following day, every weekday you work, and work all 24 hours of each weekend day. Sleeping is part of your "work schedule"; food and lodging are provided. You will have rotating days off. You must be at least 19 years old by June 21, 2019 and have been out of high school for at least one year.

While not required, ideal and preferred applicants will have previous relevant experience, understand the Ann Arbor area, be familiar with the University of Michigan, and be able to serve as positive role models for student participants. All applicants will undergo a background check.
