A Texas oil company, Sable Offshore Corp., is charging ahead with dangerous plans to restart a corroded, old oil pipeline that ruptured off the Santa Barbara coast in 2015. Restarting the pipeline would be a disaster for coastal communities and our climate because it would allow Sable to bring three offshore oil platforms back online that have been shuttered for nearly 10 years.
The Santa Barbara County Planning Commission approved a permit transfer from ExxonMobil to Sable Offshore Corp. in October 2024 that ignored the lack of financial assurances that Sable has to account for a worst case oil spill scenario. But the Environmental Defense Center and allies have filed appeals to this decision that will be heard by the County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, February 25th.
We need your help to show our community's strength and impress on the Board how important it is to us that they follow the letter of the law when evaluating this permit transfer. We need to make sure that the company extracting oil is held responsible in the case of an oil spill.
Can you join us in Santa Barbara on 2/25 and help bring a few friends and allies too?
