Thanks for your interest - The Rewild Project will be running a Social Forestry Team at Sallow Vallets and others woodlands around the Forest of Dean starting in May 2021 Friday’s 10am-4pm.
We will be managing coppice woodland: Felling of small trees and processing the wood, bringing it back to our base Kensley sheds to be used for Green Woodwork workshops and projects, and seasoning for next winter’s firewood.
Anyone who is able to take part in the physical work of Forestry i.e. lifting and carrying wood with appropriate tools is welcome to join the team. We have opportunities when funding is available to train volunteers in chainsaw use, but this is optional.
Being in the woodland and part of a small team is especially good for aiding confidence and mental health conditions - we are hoping to gain more funding in the autumn to expand the team to run more days a week and have more training and support, and to get our supervisors paid! So if you feel able to tell us about any conditions / symptoms etc we would really appreciate it. And it also helps us to support you too x
