Tools for Change Series
This year, OPIRG will be bringing you a Tools for Change series to tool up Ottawa's movements!  This interactive workshops will be a great opportunity to share skills + knowledge, meet other people working on important issues in Ottawa, and importantly, develop your activist tool box.  These workshops will be primarily targeted at people who are working on or thinking about getting involved in activist and social change work in the Ottawa area.  Below you can give input on the types of trainings that you and/or your group would like to see.

Outreach + Recruitement (getting the word out, attracting people to your group, targeted marketing, building relationships, and getting folks involved)
Action Scouting (basics of scouting for situations where you are trying to go unnoticed to maintain an element of surprise)
Media Strategy 101 (how to develop a media strategy, write compelling press releases, give great interviews, and develop frames and messages)
Media Strategy 201 (framing, story-based narrative analysis, understanding the media story cycle, and building relationships with reporters)
Banner Making 101 (basic design, outlining, painting, materials, and mounting on poles)
Banner Making 201 (costs, basic design, sewing, outlining, painting, material selection, and rigging)
Campaign Strategy + Planning (tools for picking proactive goals, power analysis, spectrum of allies, sequencing actions to win!)
Using Online Tools (making websites or blogs with wordpress, navigating google groups, google docs, etc)
Public Speaking (Tips and tools on giving speaches, how to tailor message to audiences, etc.)
Tactical media, Identity Correction, and other "Yes Men"-style tactics (media messaging, using yes-men style tactics, etc.)
Creative Visuals (theatrical visuals to enhance message - puppets, etc.)
Retention within Activist Groups (Group dynamics, community building within group, creating excitement, etc.)
FIPA / ATIs (the why and how of submitting access to information requests for digging up useful research)
Making our own Media (how to connect to alternative media, conducting research, turning our passions and projects into media stories, interviews, etc.)
Social Media (the ins, outs, pros, and cons of using twitter, facebook, online strategies, etc)
Basic Graphic Design (How to design simple and effective posters, logos, panflets, etc on a computer)
Grassroots Fundraising (sources of funding you can tap into, fundraising strategies, etc. to keep our movements afloat)
Making Our Movements Accessible (what does accessibility mean? Stating discussion on how can our events, meetings, outreach, etc be accessible in all senses of the word)
Grassroots Financial Management (tips + discussions on managing finances of your group/organization to be effective and accountable)
