Send a message to HealthPartners CEO Andrea Walsh: Don’t hurt health care workers and the communities they serve!
HealthPartners CEO Andrea Walsh just announced they are closing several health care clinics across the state, terminating health care workers, and damaging the communities they serve. That is no way to treat health care workers and the people they care for in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
HealthPartners plans to close eight health care clinics on August 31. They are Minneapolis Riverside, St. Paul Highland Park, Cottage Grove, Westfields HealthStation in New Richmond, the Stillwater Medical Group clinic in Mahtomedi, St. Paul Regions Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program, the St. Cloud area Central Minnesota Clinic, and the Regions Maplewood Behavioral Health Clinic.
HealthPartners is also reducing services and ending primary care at the University Avenue Clinic/Health Center for Women in St. Paul, and no longer offering midwifery services in Minneapolis.
It is especially hard to believe that at this time – just a month after George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis and the protests for racial justice that swept the state and country – HealthPartners is closing the Riverside Clinic. Located in the heart of the Cedar-Riverside/West Bank part of Minneapolis, this clinic serves one of the most racially diverse neighborhoods in the state, and its workforce is among the most racially diverse in the HealthPartners system. For decades, the low-income people of color in the Cedar-Riverside/West Bank neighborhood have relied on the HealthPartners Riverside clinic for their health services, and there is no other HealthPartners clinic nearby and easily accessible to them.
Once again HealthPartners is putting profits before the people who work for them and the people they take care of. SEIU Healthcare MN and OPEIU Local 12, the unions representing many of the clinic workers affected by these closures, ask you to sign this petition to show your support for all health care workers and the communities they serve.
We demand that HealthPartners stop clinic closures and protect health care workers -- and protect the health care of the communities those workers serve!
