A Note on Campaigning: The Prophet Mohammed (SAW) said in a saheeh hadith, "We will not (or, we do not) appoint for our affairs anyone who seeks that position." Leading our community bears great responsibility, a matter which cannot be taken lightly. It is contrary to Islamic etiquette to seek a position on the MSA Board. The election process is designed with this principle in mind. Asking people to nominate or vote for oneself, creating political parties around a candidate, and campaigning of any kind will not be tolerated. Word of a candidate asking members to vote for him or her will be grounds for the immediate disqualification of the candidate.

Understanding of Expectations
I have reviewed the Board Expectations document (linked at the top). *
Based on your reading of the Board Expectations document, summarize your understanding of the purpose that the MSA Board fulfills. (150 words max) *
Important Note!
The next two questions will ask about what roles you feel you are qualified for. You may choose more than one position. At the Election Night, voters will be able to see which position(s) you marked as qualified for. The candidate with the most votes under a given position will be elected to that position (not the candidate with the most votes across multiple positions overall!). Here are some pros and cons for choosing one or more positions.

Indicating qualification for more than one position:
PROS:
- If another strong candidate indicates qualification for one of your positions, the community may still feel encouraged to elect you for any of your other indicated positions.
- If you are not elected at the Election Night, the six elected candidates may still appoint you to complete the board of eight. Indicating more than one position will inform them that you are qualified for a potentially vacant role.
CONS:
- If you are ambiguous about which of your positions you prioritize, you may risk splitting your votes between them and failing to achieve the highest vote for any of your indicated positions.

KEY TAKEAWAY: Only indicate that you are qualified for positions that you truly feel capable of filling and are interested in. The above notes are simply for the sake of transparency. After having reviewed the job descriptions in the Board Expectations document, which of the following positions do you feel you are qualified for? (you may choose more than one) *
Required
For each position that you selected above and based on your understanding of the Board Expectations document, summarize the job description and assigned tasks. *
I confirm that I am capable and willing to adhere to the job description and assigned tasks of the position(s) for which I've indicated interest. *
Based on your reading of the Board Expectations document, give a complete breakdown of the time commitment expected of each board member. (100 words max) *
Based on your reading of the Board Expectations document, summarize your understanding of the factors that could subject a Board member to removal from the board. (100 words max) *
Your Contributions
It is required that every member identify tangible ways in which they could initiate beneficial change for our MSA before accepting their nominations. *
Detail the specific initiative(s) you've identified here. In what ways do you see yourself contributing to our MSA? And what tangible actions would you take to achieve your goals? Be specific, but concise. (300 words max) *
Other Factors to Consider
The following factors can influence whether you'll be able to fulfill your role as a board member. Make sure that you consider each of these factors before accepting your nomination!
Will you be commuting to campus during the upcoming academic year? Will there be any restrictions on your weekend availability? Are there any restrictions on how early and how late you could be regularly present on campus during weekdays? *
Although your service on board should never get in the way of your academics, a strong ability to manage deadlines and organize time is required to ensure that you are able to fulfill your responsibilities as a student and community leader. Please confirm your confidence in your ability to balance your school work and service to your community. *
Although your service on board should never get in the way of your responsibilities towards your family, it is important that you consult with your parents and close relatives to verify that they support your decision before accepting your nomination. Community leaders are stronger when they have their family members' approval. *
Although your service on board should never come at the expense of your mental and physical health, it is important that you consider your current mental and physical health status before accepting your nomination. *
In a team of any size, even when one member falls short of expectations, the entire team dynamic is affected. Service as a board member requires large commitment on its own. It is therefore incredibly important that members consider all other commitments they will have for the following academic year (other clubs, programs, and meetings) before accepting their nominations. *
