Westland Grade 6 Student Elective Choice Form
Please complete the form below to sign up for an elective class for the 2026-2027 school year.

Students in grade 6 will all take the following required classes.
1) English 6
2) World Studies 6
3) Science 6
4) PE/Health 6
5) Math Course* (determined by teacher recommendation and current course placement)
6) Digital Literacy, Academic Literacy, Developmental Reading or World Language (determined by MAP-R scores, grade level data, and teacher recommendations)
7) Elective (Instrumental music, chorus, arts rotation)

Based on criteria from Westland and your elementary school's careful examination of your child's MAP scores and grades, your child will be placed in one of the following options:

A) Digital Literacy (for students who are at or above grade level in reading)

B) a reading intervention course (for students who require additional support in reading -- this course will be either Developmental Reading or Academic Literacy)

C) No Reading Course (your child is eligible to take Spanish 1, French 1, or can elect to take Digital Literacy). 

If your child is recommended for Digital Literacy or a Reading Intervention, they will be automatically enrolled in the course. 

In the event your child is recommended for "No Reading Course", we need you to select one of the following options for their second elective so we can complete their schedule:

French 1A/1B
