Hello! Thank you for your interest in attending or having your child attend the Bridges to Understanding SibShop! We so look forward to meeting you and your family.
Here is some more information about what you can expect from the Sibshop:
Sibshops are best described as opportunities for siblings of children with health and developmental needs to obtain peer support and education within a recreational context. Sibshops host an environment centered on FUN, connections, and community, focusing on the well-being of the family member most likely to have the longest-lasting relationship of an individual with a disability. These monthly, pedal-to-the-metal events are where siblings will meet other sibs (usually for the first time), have fun, laugh, talk about the good and not-so-good parts of having a sib with disabilities, play some great games, and create their own community of support. SibShops are open to children ages 6-16 and will be lead by volunteers who are adult siblings themselves!
Logistical details of the SibShop include:
- It will be held on the first Sunday of each month (our first SibShop will be May 5th) from 2-4 PM
- It will be held at the Cobb County Switzer Library (266 Roswell St NE, Marietta, GA 30060)
- SibShops are "drop-off" events; parents need not stay! However, if you feel that your kiddo may be more comfortable/able to participate in our activities (mostly games + some reading) with a parent around, feel free to come with your child. We will have ample volunteers, so we will be able to support your child/children either way!
- Each sibling will put down a registration fee of $10 (this will go towards supplies for each SibShop). Each additional sibling from the same family will put down 5$ as their fee.
If you are interested in having more than one sibling attend the Sibshop, please fill out the related questions below. We are collecting contact info for those interested and will reach back out with more information when more details are set in stone. Thank you, and we look forward to meeting you!
