Surfrider NYC is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to manage and grow our vibrant volunteer community. In this role, you will strengthen the Chapter’s volunteer base through effective recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies, while serving as the primary point of contact for all volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Chair and works closely with other Chapter leadership team members as needed.
Role and ResponsibilitiesDevelop strategies to grow and sustain volunteer engagement through recruitment and empowerment.
Build relationships with volunteers, learn their interests, and connect them with meaningful opportunities.
Respond promptly to volunteer inquiries and guide new members into the Chapter.
Bring creativity and initiative to expand our volunteer base, increase retention, and foster satisfaction, in partnership with the Chapter Coordinator.
Collaborate with campaign and program leads to identify volunteer needs and connect volunteers with opportunities.
Contribute to Chapter communications, including website and social media, to promote volunteer opportunities.
Provide regular updates on volunteer engagement at team meetings.
Attend Chapter meetings and events to connect with volunteers in person.
Provide staffing support for tabling, events, and community outreach.
Gain working knowledge of Chapter campaigns and programs to inform and engage volunteers.

Active Surfrider Foundation member
Commit ~1–2 hours per week for a 2-year term
Attend Chapter meetings, EC meetings, and/or Chapter events regularly (about 1 per month)
Complete a background check as part of Executive Committee service
