What: The Lafayette Peer Empowerment Project is a youth leadership program sponsored by the City of Lafayette and administered by the Empowerment Center of East County. Free to All Participants and Open to all Lafayette middle and high school students, the LPEP Summer program inspires kids to explore new ideas, develop a connection with their city, work as a community, and support one another in the achievement of their personal potential. We have three pillars that the campers will get to choose from once the program starts and each group will present a final project to family members in the final week of the program: 1. Health, Wellness, and Expressive Arts: including cooking, movement, dance improvisation, and self expression 2. Public Fine Art: Creating and Restoring Public Art Around Lafayette including mural work3. EC^2 Studios: develop film, music, and photography skills, share your story and express yourself through photography/music/spoken word, and prepare your work to share with the world. Open to 20 participants.
Schedule: Monday, June 10th and 17th will be service learning project days. Every Friday will be a field trip in the community with the June 14th field trip at Ninja Nation and the final field trip being a day at The Great Outdoors Waterpark! Every other day of camp will be at Centaurus High School and will be focused on topics of the campers choosing (from the pillar options above).
*Refreshments and program supplies will be covered by the City of Lafayette. Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Centaurus High School each day the program meets.*
