Application for ADTR's Fundamentals of Audio Description Training

Please fill out and submit this application if you are interested in being a Participant or an Observer in one of the upcoming 3-Day Intensive Fundamentals of Audio Description training held by Audio Description Training Retreats (ADTR). This is a virtual course and will be led by Colleen Connor and Liz Gutman using the Zoom platform.

Tuition costs are: $770 USD for Participants or $570 USD for Observers 
Installment payment plans are available
Note that in some US states and in Canada, sales tax may apply

June 2024 Training:
Thursday, June 27th - Saturday, June 29th, 2024

Days are from 12:00PM - 7:00PM Eastern / 9:00AM - 4:00PM Pacific Time
Breaks are a 1-Hour break mid-training, and 5 minute breaks throughout the day

Training Information:
  • Interactive and formal instruction, discussion, and practice
  • Handouts, prep material, and homework provided in advance
  • Participation limited to maximum of 8 students, and 8 additional spots for class observers
  • Observer students will receive the same educational materials, and can watch the entire class live, but will not participate in live practice or discussion.
Curriculum Overview:
  • History of description, issues, context, and future trends
  • Disability awareness, justice, and statistics of our primary audience
  • Overview of jobs in AD: of live theater, film, TV and more
  • Review of complex rules of Audio Description
  • Our Top Ten Tips, highlighting how to organize and approach description, along with other rules and guidelines
  • Emphasis on practice time—this is an art learned by doing!
  • Collaboration, feedback and critique from leaders and fellow participants
PARTICIPANTS receive:
  • 3 days of intensive instruction

  • Opportunities to discuss and ask questions in real-time
  • Live instructor feedback on multiple practice scenes
  • A Certificate of Completion
  • Extensive resources for continuing education
  • Admission to ADTR’s network of graduates
OBSERVERS receive:
  • 3 days of intensive instruction
  • Comprehensive handouts
  • Opportunities to submit written questions via chat
  • Written feedback from an instructor on a selected practice scene
  • A Certificate of Attendance
  • Extensive resources for continuing education

If your application is accepted, you will receive an email with a link to register and pay. The tuition can be paid in full or in installments. 
Tuition is non-refundable.
In extenuating circumstances, a refund may be considered provided a replacement participant can be found.
