Join the GPFS for a full-day workshop related to all things flute. Featuring a breathing session and Alexander Technique workshop in the morning, a flute ensemble reading session over lunch, and an afternoon masterclass with Martha Long, principal flute of the Oregon Symphony! There are a LIMITED NUMBER of masterclass spots so please register early if you wish to play for Martha! Otherwise, come along as a masterclass observer and participate in the morning events and reading session.
Tentative Schedule: 9:00 – Registration 9:30 – Presentation: “Breath, Body, Flute: Techniques for a Free, Flexible, and Supported Sound” with Clinician Abigail Sperling and Assistant Professor of Anatomy Edie Sperling10:30 – Alexander Technique Workshop with specialist Kiersten Garber12:30 – Lunch (pizzas, drinks, cookies) and a flute choir reading session 2:00 – Masterclass with Martha Long 5:00 – Finish!
If you wish to perform in the masterclass please come prepared with your part, a score for Martha, and a score for our pianist Deborah Huddleston. If you are playing a difficult or unknown piece please contact Deborah directly: email@example.com. Please treat this as a solo performance although Martha may stop you early.
If you do not wish to play in the class please come prepared to participate in the workshops, play in the reading session, observe, ask questions, and give feedback!
