CultureAID: Join the Network

CultureAID (Active in Disasters) is a network of stakeholders and service providers committed to strengthening New York City’s cultural community – including artists and organizations – before, during, and after disasters through an organized communications system, as well as coordinated activities and services to the field.

WHO WE ARE:
Spearheaded by the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) and FEMA’s Sandy Recovery Office, with initial funding provided by the Sloan Foundation, CultureAID’s Founding Steering Committee members include organizations whose missions broadly serve the entire City of New York.

CultureAID Founding Steering Committee Members:
New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) (Co-Chair), Staten Island Arts (Co-Chair), The Actors Fund, Alliance for Response - New York, Alliance of Resident Theaters/New York, Lawyers Alliance for New York, Asian American Arts Alliance, Bronx Council on the Arts, Brooklyn Arts Council, Dance/NYC, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New York Council for the Humanities

WHAT WE DO:
CultureAID will maintain relationships with the national arts sector and emergency management agencies and support the arts and cultural sector primarily by:
1. Encouraging disaster preparedness;
2. Sharing information about available resources in time of disaster;
3. Helping assess disaster impact;
4. Regularly communicating with national stakeholders, press, and funders on disaster impact;
5. Promoting the role of the arts and culture in disaster recovery

This network was based on a model developed by the work of the National Coalition for Arts’ Preparedness and Emergency Response.

NOTE: For the purposes of this application, "disaster" refers to any emergency, natural disaster, or man-made disaster that impacts the arts and cultural community in more than one locale.
