Overview:
The Canadian Media Lawyers Association’s Freedom of Expression Award is granted annually to an individual or individuals who have promoted and protected freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Canada. The award may be based on individual actions, or a lifetime of contributions to the cause; lawyers and non-lawyers are eligible. This award also celebrates individuals who go beyond the expectations of one’s job, position or responsibility to advance freedom of expression.
A winner will be selected by the members of the Board of Directors based on the answers given in the nomination forms and any additional information provided. The winner will be announced at the Canadian Media Lawyers Association annual conference.
In adjudicating this award, the Board of Directors will use the following criteria:
- Significant contribution to the advancement, the promotion or the defense of freedom of expression;
- Contribution to innovative or groundbreaking developments in the field of freedom of expression;
- Advocacy promoting freedom of expression;
- Teaching, writing or participating in conferences about freedom of expression;
