Review of Assessment Calendar - Parents
Dear Parent, we are working on our Strategic Plan and we want to hear your thoughts on how often our students take assessments.

Assessments are important for two reasons. They let the students show what they have learned and they give feedback on what they need to improve.

Assessments are ways of collecting and analyzing data from different sources to measure the student’s learning and understanding. This data can help us see what worked well and what didn’t.

Assessments help the students learn from their mistakes, use the feedback they get, and do better next time. Assessments can also help them review and practice the new information and take the test again to improve their results.

Besides the regular tests at the end of each topic and the daily informal assessments in class, we have these formal exams in our annual calendar:

1st Year; 2nd Year; TY; LCA1 and 5th Year Students
  • October Assessment - In-class assessment and feedback reports to parents
  • Christmas Assessments - House Exams and feedback reports to parents
  • Spring Assessment - In-class assessment and feedback reports to parents
  • Summer Assessments - House Exams and feedback reports to parents
  • Classroom-Based Assessments for 2nd & 3rd Years

3rd Year; LCA2 and 6th Year Students
  • October Assessment - In-class assessment and feedback reports to parents
  • Classroom-Based Assessments for 2nd & 3rd Years
  • Christmas Assessments - In-class assessments and feedback reports to parents
  • Pre-Examinations and feedback reports to parents
  • State Examinations June

We are exploring the possibility of combining the October and Christmas Assessments and having one exam at the end of November. This might help lower stress levels among students and provide more time to study and prepare. It would also allow time for students to review their assessment performance prior to the Christmas break to revise any areas needing improvement with their teachers. We would like to gather your opinion on this proposal.
