    WMFS Teacher Guidelines and Responsibilities

Teacher Commitment Our quarterly system requires a commitment up to three months in advance depending upon your chosen class date/s. We understand that life happens. If you absolutely have to cancel or reschedule your class, we ask that you agree to communicate with your students and post a note at the location on the day of your class. Scheduling You choose how often in that three months you want to teach your classes. Will it be a one-time only class, or will it be a series of classes? You can have a one day workshop, a weekly or monthly class, or a discussion group - whatever you like. While you’re welcome to hold classes at any time, do consider your audience and their work schedules. You choose what days fit your schedule. We will contact you if there are any major scheduling conflicts. Teaching Space It is the responsibility of each teacher to select and arrange for the location of their class. Choose a space that best lends itself to the subject you have chosen to teach. When appropriate, be sure to get permission to hold your class at your selected location beforehand. For spaces consider your house, the Point Reyes National Seashore, Samuel P. Taylor Park, Toby’s Feed Barn, Lagunitas Creek Park, Libraries, Cafes, Gardens, Beaches, etc. Teacher Responsibilities We are a grassroots project- You and I make it happen! We'll get the word out about your class through the calendar and our mailing list, and you need to promote your class too! Promote your class through word-of-mouth, making and putting up your own fliers, online message boards, email lists and blogs. (The teachers that do more self-promotion tend to have better attended classes.) Please be prompt and reliable. Keep in touch with your students, before and after your class. Take good care of the spaces that graciously host your class. Help Organize Chat it up! Tell people about WMFS and your class, let people know what's happening! Ask people to put up flyers at work, at coffee shops, at grocery stores they go to. Ask people to email their friends and neighbors. We always need more help distributing calendars around town, recruiting teachers, and organizing events. We are in need of scotch tape, a staple gun (with lots of staples), thumb tacks, and cash for printing/office costs. Stay In Contact We like to stay connected to each other and we send out announcements about updates and events. If you aren't already linked in, please join our email list by emailing: WMFreeSkool@gmail.com Calendar Information When you’ve got your class plan put together, submit this form. We'll email to let you know we've received it, and will send a final version of your class description for you to proof-read before the calendar goes to print. Once we have had time to process the details we’ll put your class up on the website, publish it in the printed calendar, and send out an email to the WMFS email list. Freeschool is Free Please maintain the tradition of the gift economy by refraining from asking for money or barter for your teachings. It is not ok to try to sell things to your students. Sometimes it's totally appropriate to ask your students for a small donation to cover the cost of materials they will be using in your class. It's preferable to also give people the option to come up with materials on their own as well. And remember, no one is turned away for lack of funds.
