Lakeside School District Virtual Learning Option Application

Lakeside School District will be offering students the opportunity to learn virtually for the 2020-21 school year. The virtual learning option will be available for students in grades K-12 who will not be able to attend school at the regular campus this year. The following application must be completed and submitted by July 31st. Virtual Learning is available to all students who live in the Lakeside School District or meet the residency or school choice requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. The applications help teachers plan lessons for both traditional and virtual classes.

Students will be completing grade-level work and will interact with a teacher through our Canvas Learning Management System, Zuni Learning Tree, Google Hangout, Google Classroom, telephone conversations, and face-to-face. Since broadband and internet connectivity is a statewide issue, Internet service will be the responsibility of the parents. The district will provide all students with a chrome book and USB drive to upload lessons if broadband is an issue. You are always welcome to come by the school and download or upload information and lessons without ever leaving your car.

Benefits of virtual learning will include:
• Chromebooks
• Lakeside Schools curriculum, teachers, intervention, and support
• Lakeside Schools parent/student resources, extracurricular activities, and events
• Lakeside Schools diploma and transcript

There will be no cost to enroll in the virtual learning option. It does require parents and students to commit to at least one (1) full semester of virtual instruction once the school year is started. Example: If the student starts in August, it is the expectation that he or she will continue virtually until December and return in January if face to face instruction is a better option for the student. This will help provide consistency in instruction and services for both the students receiving virtual and live instruction. Special considerations may be granted should a change in circumstances occur that prevents the student from participating virtually.

If a student must start virtual classes due to a medical issue, he or she may do so then return to regular classes once released from the doctor.

Please submit 1 application per student. There will be a mandatory parent and student training regarding the use of the chrome book, introduction to Canvas or Zuni, the Learning Management Systems, and information regarding the use of Google and Virtual Arkansas, if applicable. The school counselor or principal will send out information with the date(s) and times.

Please submit 1 application per student.

If you have questions regarding the virtual learning option, you may contact the school principals.
